| Sweet traditions in Pulsnitz: 800 years of history and gingerbread
|
This year, the charming Saxon town of Pulsnitz celebrates an incredible milestone: 800 years of history. Only a 30-minute train ride from Dresden, this small town is best known for a sweet tradition that has delighted generations: gingerbread making.
Often called the “Gingerbread Town of Saxony”, Pulsnitz has been handcrafting its famous Pfefferkuchen (spiced gingerbread) since the 16th century. Today, nine traditional bakeries still follow time-honoured recipes, producing aromatic, beautifully decorated gingerbread that is beloved across Germany and beyond.
Visitors can explore the Gingerbread Museum, take part in baking workshops, and enjoy festive markets such as the Gingerbread market beginning of November.
For those seeking a deliciously authentic experience off the beaten path, Pulsnitz is a sweet stop worth savouring.
